chúc mừng năm mới (Happy New Year)

Last night we had a great time celebrating Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, with family.  It's the year of the dragon, which is supposed to be very special and lucky.  I don't believe in all the superstition that surrounds the holiday, like not sweeping dirt out of the house for the first 3 days of the new year because it symbolizes sweeping away all your fortune for the year, and not eating black beans those first days because you'll have bad gas all year (that's a joke).  But it's still fun to celebrate the new year, and I love our Vietnamese family traditions!  The kids wore their adorable Asian jammies and we handed out Li Xi (little red envelopes filled with money) in exchange for good luck wishes.  We also feasted on special dishes prepared only once a year for the new year celebration.

This is bánh chưng , my FAVORITE Tết food.

Ahh, quality family time...everyone sitting together...on their phones

Here's our Chinese dragon...guarding our door and keeping all the bad stuff out for the turn of the new year tonight.  This is not a tradition...this is my weird sense of humor as I clean up the toy room.  Happy new year!

Check out a special order Amylou Baby Little Mister onesie made for a friend to celebrate the new year:
